Swedish Snack Kanelmandel

 

In Sweden, bulk candy is very popular, especially on the weekends when Swedes celebrate "lördagsgodis" or "Saturday Sweets". Bulk candy is called "Godis". They also have bulk nuts and nut related snacks which they call "Naturgodis' or 'natural candy'.

One of our favorite Naturgodis has to be kanelmandel!

What is a Kanelmandel?

Kanelmandel or Kanelmandlar (plural) are milk chocolate covered almonds which are then covered in cinnamon.

They have a nice crunch and are both sweet and salty. They are delicious and it's hard to eat just one.. you may find yourself grabbing a handful :)

You can find this snack at a grocery store, candy store or chocolate shop!

There is also a similar almond snack but instead of cinnamon it uses cardamom.

Sketi Glyka Crete

Located in Chania, Sketi Glyka is a great little Patisserie that offers some delicious treats.

If you're looking for something sweet yo satisfy your cravings, you've come to the right place. The dessert shop offers gelato, baklava and beautiful handcrafted cakes! We enjoyed the little tarts and the baklava on our visit.

Nestled in the streets of Old Town near the Venetian Port, there is both indoor and outdoor seating, so you can sit and eat in or pick up some take away.

There were so many different "two-bite" tarts to try, so we got a sample box of chocolate, apple and a few marshmallow topped tarts. 

Everything is made with local ingredients and it's a lovely place to stop for a coffee break.

Staff were friendly and packed our takeaway with care. Kids and parents loved this dessert stop!

Monogram Roasters Crete

 

A lovely place to sit for a coffee and snack, on a beautiful street, Monogram Roasters in Chania is worth a visit.

Open early with plenty of outdoor seating, this coffee shop offers some delicious coffee or tea for a morning Wakeup or a coffee break or fika during the day.

There is also a kids' corner with kids toys and books to keep them busy while parents enjoy their coffee! 

Aside from the drinks, they also have some treats like banana bread, cakes and even donuts! Delish!

Nymfi Restaurant Crete

Located in Chania, Crete, this local restaurant offers delicious food in beautiful surroundings.

This is a wonderful restaurant for families.  There's play area, a big bonus for parents and a children's menu. 

From the appetizers to the main dishes and desserts, we had a really great dining experience. 

Food was flavorful and delicious and even the kids enjoyed our dishes. 

Nymfi raki and some vanilla tarts dessert on the house to end the meal.

If you're looking for a place to sit, relax and enjoy a delicious greek meal that's family-friendly but still a lovely dining experience, check out Nymfi Restaurant. It is popular so you may want to try to make a reservation as well.

Milo Pastry Crete

Located in the town of Agios Nikolaos, Milo Pastry, is a lovely little bakery offering some delicious cakes and pastries. We stumbled upon this bakery on our visit to the town and were pleasantly surprised by what we tried.

It was hard to choose just one dessert, so of course we tried a few!

Friendly service and reasonable prices for the bakery items, the kids enjoyed trying different treats. The olive foccacia bread was tasty. There were also a few different types of muffins and chocolate treats.

We actually stopped at this bakery twice because of our snack cravings. Milo Pastry has a nice outdoor seating area.

Arhondiko Taverna Crete

A beautiful, family-run Cretan restaurant, at Arhondiko Taverna, the tables are nestled under Olive trees. 

Located in Chania on the island of Crete, we visited at dinner time and the tables filled up quickly. The servers were attentive even if they were busy.

Arhondiko is a family friendly restaurant. There's a nice kids play area so they can run around while they wait for food. They also have a children's menu with items like spaghetti and pizza for the less adventurous.

Cute kittens were very entertaining as well!

The restaurant offers generous portion sizes so we left full and satisfied.

Dessert was on the house and we were served homemade candied cherries and ouzo.

The card machine was not working on our visit so it's helpful to bring cash just in case.

BAK Cafe Stockholm

 

Located in the neighborhood of Hammarby Sjöstad, BAK Cafe, is the perfect place for remote work or just sitting for a coffee break.

This cafe offers a few outdoor seats and  pretty spacious indoor area.

The staff were nice and friendly and there were a few different  pastries available on our visit.

The cafe also offers breakfast from 7-10:30am.

The cafe's interior is spacious for strollers and larger groups.

Beautiful decor and nice ambience, BAK Cafe opened a few months ago and is a great addition to the cafes in the Hammarby Sjöstad neighborhood.
