Fan Expo Vancouver

A 3 day event with cosplay, artists, celebrities, anime, gaming and more, Fan Expo Vancouver takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Vendors were selling everything from their handmade crochet items to classic toys and graphic tees. Bring cash because a lot of artists and vendors only accepted cash payments.

Nomscafeco had food themed accessories, keychains and clothing! 

The stacks of blind boxes were impressive but not sure how many people were buying.

It's a busy expo with lots of people, sometimes shoulder to shoulder, so be patient. 

Lines for the snacks and food was also quite long.

There was a kids zone with some drawing, and play.

Fans looking for autographs might have to shell out more cash then they expected. Prices seem to be increasing each year.

There was a lot more to see, including various panels. 

It's a chance to meet and support artists and celebs and an overall fun experience overall!

Fauborg Vancouver

With a few locations in the Vancouver, Fauborg is a lovely cafe to visit to satisfy your French pastry cravings.

You'll find delicious pastries both savory and sweet at this cafe. If you have any questions on ingredients, don't hesitate to ask the helpful staff.

Sit for lunch or a nice coffee break and indulge in some dessert! 

There is even a nice selection of macarons, seasonal flavors like candy cane and classic flavors like lavender earl grey. 

Indoor seating is available at the cafe and there are a couple of outdoor tables as well.

If you're looking for a cozy cafe to catch up with a friend or want to grab some French pastries and coffee for your walk, visit a Fauborg location in the city.

Goodbye Cartems Donuts

 

On Valentine's Day, it's a bitter sweet goodbye to Cartems Donuts after their 14 years offering their delicious donuts in the city of Vancouver. 

Their last few days meant line-ups at their two remaining donut locations - Mount Pleasant and Coquitlam.

"Whats your favorite Cartems Donuts??" Was a common question in the lineup.

Earl Grey and Classic were definitely favorites and popular responses.

People jumping, running on the spot, chatting about donuts just to keep warm and pass the time. The lucky ones who got first pick of the donuts on the last day arrived before 7am.

Gluten-free and Vegan options were also available.

It is their last day open, so of course some people even tried to use their Cartems coupons and in doing so held up the line 😬

Goodbye, Cartems Donuts and all the best to the staff. Thank you for the delicious gourmet donuts over the years ❤️

Dotty Cakes and Epic Grill Silogs

Filipino bakery, Dotty Cakes, can be found at Epic Grill Silogs + Sans Rival located in New Westminister.

Offering traditional flavors like the popular flavor Ube, you can find some delicious looking custom cakes and other  desserts. It's a perfect spot to grab something for your next celebration or coffee break.

We really enjoyed the "UbeBytes" and Silvanas! The Silvanas are best eaten frozen.

The tiny cupcakes came in 2 flavors, Red Velvet and Ube. These were too good to have just one. The "UbeBytes" are a version of Ube brownies! Pair with a coffee and tea and you've got a nice coffee break ☕️ 

Hungry for something more hearty? Epic Grill Silogs offers some delicious Filipino Breakfast rice plates or "Silog" too. 

It's always great to support local businesses!

Lees Donuts Vancouver

Lee's Donuts started with a location in the Granville Island Public Market on Granville Island in Vancouver. 

They've been serving delicious, handmade donuts since 1979. Lee's has since expanded with multiple locations in the city.

With a wide selection of donuts, this popular donut shop is a treat to visit. You can find their regular, classic flavors like  raspberry jelly or seasonal ones like the Horchata! The cheesecake donuts were also recommended to us by the Lee's Donut staff.

Be sure to stop by early to avoid missing out on your favorite flavor!

You can buy day old donuts at a discounted price or pickup some fresh donuts to have right away! 

The Lee's Donut location in Gastown is right by the historic Steam Clock and is very popular with tour groups.

Robson Square Ice Rink

Conveniently located right in city centre, the Robson Square ice skating rink is a great weekend activity with or without kids!

Bring your own skates ⛸️ or rent for $5 (helmets available). Service was friendly and quick. 

Note: The zamboni cleans the ice a few times a day. When we arrived the zamboni was just finishing up, so when we went on the ice, it was smooth!

The Robson Square Ice Rink is open from 9am-9pm everyday. There is a small cafe for coffee and snacks. 

There are holders for people to push on the ice. These are great for kids and those still learning. Everyone was pretty good about only going in one direction and being careful not to crash into people.

If you're in the city, looking for a festive and fun activity, try ice skating at Robson Square! It's a nice covered area, so even on a rainy day you can enjoy some ice skating ⛸️

Breka Bakery and Cafe

With several locations in the city and a great selection of sweet and savory options, check out Breka Bakery and Cafe in Vancouver.

Of course, coffee and tea are on the menu and Breka offers a complimentary milk substitution, which is a welcome change compared to other coffee places.

Feel like a slice of cake, cream bun or a small nibble of short bread, Breka is a great spot for your next fika (coffee break). Seasonal pastries are also available. 

If you're hungrier for a bigger bite to eat, they have a few different sandwiches including grilled cheese sandwiches 🥪, Soup, and sausage rolls. Prices are pretty reasonable as well.

During the Jewish Holiday of Hanukkah, Breka offers Sufganiyot or jelly-filled donuts.

Whether you're looking for a hot drink or a delicious pastry or both, visit Breka Bakery and Cafe to sit in and relax or take your coffee and snack to go.
