Tekniska Museet Stockholm

Tekniska museum Stockholm

We visited Tekniska museet, in Stockholm, Sweden and it is a great museum for kids!

The National museum on Science and Technology, located on Djurgården, has 3 floors to explore!

At the start of your visit, you can drop off your jackets and bags in the free lockers before heading in to buy tickets and check out the museum.

There are various exhibits to see, from The history on Video Games to an exhibit on mining where you walk through a mine and learn what tools they use in the work.

There are a couple of interactive and play areas in the museum, some are more suitable for younger kids and involve soft building blocks. There's also a playground area with a slide that the kids enjoyed running around in.

Tekniska

The playground area was a favorite for the high energy kiddos! There's slides and a little maze for them!

The kids also really liked the garbage shoot found at the Zero City exhibit. Here, you they put a soft block in the "garbage shoot" and watch it go up and in through the pipe to the other side. They loved running to grab more and repeating this over and over.

Learning about mining was fun and although it was a bit dark and spooky at first, kids were excited to walk through the underground mine exhibit!

It was interesting seeing the first vehicle designs and even one of first firetrucks.

There was a lot of different things at Tekniska to see for both the kids and the parents. You can easily spend a few hours here with your little ones.

Video Game Exhibit at Tekniska

We really liked the history of video games which featured history on Swedish video games as well. Kids loved trying the arcade machines - Pacman, Frogger, donkey Kong and the VR station, trying Star Stable, Unraveled and learning about sounds when creating a video game. It was a really nice interactive area that everyone enjoyed.

If you have brought your own snacks, there is an eating area near the lockers. There is also a museum restaurant as well.

Of course, there's a gift shop with lots to choose from just near the entrance offering souvenirs, and science related toys and books. The gift shop is also available online.

If you're in Stockholm or visiting the city and looking for an indoor activity for the family, check out Tekniska Museet on Djurgården. The museum is located next to the Police Museum and across from the Ethnografiska museet. There's also a bus stop just by the museum if you plan to take Public transit to Djurgården.

Don't forget your snacks!
