Grocery Delivery Has Been a Huge Help!

We have been ordering Grocery delivery since the Pandemic started. Well, actually maybe a couple of months after it started. I remember having to take both kids to the grocery store with me and filling up the stroller with non-perishables at the beginning of the Pandemic.

Having the groceries delivered right to our door has made a HUGE difference. It really is so convenient and a big time saver. Trying to take kids to the grocery store became a lot harder when they could walk and even harder when they wanted to grab different things they wanted.

I'll never forget the time I was lining up at the cashier, just about to take the items out of my basket, when my toddler started having a tantrum. The person behind me in line, actually asked if he could help. Seeing how I was busy and knowing he would have to wait, he started unloading all my items for me. This type of behavior is really unexpected, especially in Sweden, where people tend to keep to themselves, but that kind gesture was really appreciated at the time. You never know what kind of mood the kids might be in on a grocery store run, it's good to remember the snacks and just get in and out, no leisure stroll through the aisles.

It's nice when kids want to help, but that's only if you have the time. Right now, with the Pandemic, we avoid all stores and try to avoid going indoors anywhere unless we need to.

Here in Sweden, we have been ordering from our local grocery stores, Hemköp, Willy's and Coop. An interesting fact about grocery stores is that depending on the area you live, the prices for the same item will vary. But when you order online, it's the same since it comes from the warehouse.

Willy's has the largest selection with some international items like Macaroni and Cheese, Bureks (pastry filled with meat or cheese), and pancake mix but the delivery fee is more.

We tend to switch between Willy's and Hemköp and order every few weeks.

The delivery person brings all the (paper) bags right to the door separated into different groups such as Freezer items or Veggies. Yes, you are left with many paper bags to fold up!

Some downsides, you can't select the items based on expiry date like we often do at the store, veggies/fruits might not be in the best state and they might not be able to deliver everything you ordered (if they miss something in your order, you can just send them an email and you will be refunded).

However, for us, the advantages outweigh the downsides. Grocery delivery eliminates the need for us to go into a grocery store during the Pandemic. We don't need to worry about taking kids in and we don't need to worry about having enough space to fit all items in the stroller.

"Hall avstånd" or Keep Distance signs are all over the stores, and city. But whether people care or follow that recommendation is questionable as Covid cases are still high in Sweden.

Have you tried Grocery delivery yourself yet? It may not be for everyone so of course, it's whatever works best for you! Stay safe, and remember, don't forget your snacks!
