Eatery lunch Stockholm

Eatery lunch

Serving traditional Swedish dishes or "husmanskost" and with many locations around Stockholm, the Eatery is a great lunch option!

The daily lunch or "dagenslunch" includes a salad buffet with lots of healthy salad toppings, to build your own salad.

Lunch also includes coffee or tea and something sweet. Depending on the day of the week, it could be a dessert like delicious apple crumble or chocolate mousse!

We have enjoyed Eatery lunches when we can. It's nice to have a restaurant like it in the neighborhood and the food has been tasty!

Trader Joe's snacks

Trader Joe's snacks

We got a care package last month with some snacks from Trader Joe's in the US. The kids always enjoy dried mango and trying different nut-free snacks while the parents love the chocolate and trail mix.

It can be quite expensive to send snacks internationally, especially to Sweden. This  means we appreciate the gifts even more.

Some of the kids' favorites include the Vegan Snickerdoodles and dried mango! The dark chocolate peanut butter cups are so good but kids are nut-free (due to allergies) so they're just for us grown-ups!

We met some relatives in Rome recently and what did they bring us? A bunch of Trader Joe's snacks!! Including these Ube flavored ones!

It's always nice to have some new snacks to take with us for outdoor play. 😀

Filmstaden Movies Stockholm

Filmstaden

We used to go to movies so often! Filmstaden offered Barnvagn bio or stroller movies and I was there every week with my little ones. It was one of my favorite activities during parental leave before the Pandemic,  I mean. Baby would usually fall asleep while I watched the movie.

Since the Pandemic, we stopped going to movies and avoiding being indoors so we had to stop going to any movies.

Our recent movie theater experience was special because it was the first time taking the older sibling.

Filmstaden Stockholm

It was a little scary when the theater goes dark and during loud parts in the movie but  otherwise it was an enjoyable experience. Seeing the trailers and commercials before the movie was fun too. How often do they see commercials these days?

My kids have wanted to go to the movies since we saw a movie theater and posters of different movies advertised just outside. "I want to go in there." and we would reassure them that we would go one time soon.

Filmstaden Stockholm

In Sweden, the kids movies are in Swedish with Swedish subtitles. So it's a Swedish lesson for those who aren't fluent ;)

There are booster seats for kids that need to sit a little higher. They were located just by the theater entrance. I don't remember if we had something similar as kids.

Filmstaden

Of course, we had some popcorn 🍿 too.

Filmstaden

Besides popcorn, Swedes also eat crispy snacks or "Krispiga snacks". They come in different flavors like, bacon or sour cream.

Filmstaden

The movie theater offers a good selection of snacks and drinks including slushies and bulk candy which you don't really see in a theater in North America.

There is even a bulk candy section that's Vegan!

They used to allow you to bring your own food to the theater but this has since changed.

Kids movie ticket prices are always discounted and there are even "Kids movie days" where it's even cheaper and they show a movie for kids and lower the volume a bit as well.

A movie is nice activity after a busy day of playing in the snow or doing errands or both!

We really enjoyed our movie experience and hope to go again soon!

Don't forget your snacks! (Buy them at the theater or afterwards at the mall!)

Mormors Dumplings Stockholm

Mormors Dumplings

Located in Stockholm, Sweden, in the neighborhood of Södermalm, Mormors Restaurang & Dumplings (Mormors means Grandma's in Swedish) is an authentic Chinese restaurant that specializes in Dumplings!

Mormors Dumplings

They offer vegetarian, pork, beef and chicken dumplings! The dumpling dough is soft and has a nice chew to it. They come in orders of 10 or 15 pieces.

The dumplings in hot pot dish was pretty popular as well.

We were surprised to find that even if the restaurant had just opened for lunch, it was already packed and more people were coming in to order takeaway or wait for a table.

Duck dish and wonton soup

It's a small restaurant, nothing fancy but the food is tasty! Stand in line to order your dishes then grab your own water, miso soup and rice crackers. Choose a table before you lineup if you can.

Wait your turn to order but have your order ready!

Kids loved the dumplings so we went back for dumplings takeaway!

Chicken and corn dumplings and beef dumplings.

Mormors Dumplings are delicious and it's worth a visit if you don't mind the wait or small space. Leave strollers outside as there's no space inside for them.

It's always nice to support local businesses!

Java Whiskers Cat Cafe Stockholm

Java Whiskers Cat Cafe

Located in downtown Stockholm, the Java Whiskers Cat Cafe is a popular place for those who enjoy the company of cats during their coffee break!

It's no secret that being with animals can be a calming and stress relieving activity. Interacting with animals can be healing therapy for those who like them and who aren't allergic to them. Some of the cats at the Cat Cafe enjoyed playing with the humans too.

Java Whiskers Cat Cafe Stockholm

Java Whiskers was the first Cat Cafe to open in Sweden! Cats can learn to socialize with humans visitors which can help them prepare for adoption.

Kids aged 10 and up are allowed in the cafe but no younger children. This is mentioned on their website and is likely for the safety of the cats.

Being a mom of younger kids, I know how excited they get when they see cats and how they want to chase them around whether or not the cat wants their attention!

However, Java Whiskers now offers a course for kids 6+ to learn how to spend time with the cats. After completing this course, kids are allowed to come into the Cat cafe with a parent 🐈 They just need to bring their Java Whiskers button! The staff were really friendly and my child enjoyed the course! Thank you, Java Whiskers!

There are drop-in spots to visit the Cat cafe but they recommend booking your time to ensure a spot.

Java Whiskers Cat Cafe

It is possible to add extras to your booking like a little snack package or even a birthday package to celebrate you or a friend! 🎂

It's always great to support local cafes especially one that helps Cats find their new families.

Matcha Latte at Java Whiskers Cat Cafe

The cutest latteart! Delicious too!

On our visit we opted to choose the snacks to have once we arrived at the cafe. Along with different coffee drinks, there were various pastries to try too - there are some nut free options in case of allergies, just check with the staff.

Once you order, you line-up to go in. The staff serves your order in the 'Cat area' so try to choose a place to sit with a table for your snacks.

Java Whiskers Cat Cafe Stockholm

The cafe has a smaller space than we expected but it makes for a cozy visit. There are still a few different tables so all the human visitors can space themselves out.

The cats have large windows to look out or nap beside which also brings a lot of light into their space. There are plenty of cat toys and some nice high shelves to climb if they prefer to have time away from everyone.

Java Whiskers

The Cat Cafe staff were friendly and gave a little information session before inviting you in to wash hands and remove your shoes. A few times, staff would come in to play with cats or talk to visitors about the cats. They also fed some of the cats treats.

Java Whiskers Cat Cafe

Not all of the cats wanted to socialize during our visit, so don't expect the cats to come running to you! Remember that these cats may still be getting used to humans.

Java Whiskers Stockholm

Nice to have high spaces for the cats to be on their own!

There is also a Cat Cafe in Gothenburg, Sweden called Purrfect Cat Cafe. Check out my past blog about visiting the Gothenburg Cat Cafe.

If you ignore the cats, they might get curious and approach you on their own.

If you are visiting Stockholm and missing your own pets back home or just really like cats but can't have pets, the Java Whiskers Cat Cafe is the perfect place. We had a lovely visit!

And if you are interested in adopting a cat, you can come meet the cats and see if you think any of the kitties could be a good match. Java Whiskers has several cats waiting for adoption.

Don't forget your snacks!

Swedish History Museum Stockholm

Historiska Museet

Located in the neighborhood of Östermalm in Stockholm, Sweden, we visited the Swedish History Museum  or Historiska Museet (in Swedish) for the first time during the Christmas break.

There is a lot to see and learn at this museum! The historical timeline visitors can follow takes them through the history of vikings and onwards with various artifacts from how they used to live.

For kids, there are activities and interactive exhibits to explore, making it a nice family activity together.

There is a magnet board to practice writing words in Viking Rune. Toddler enjoyed this activity very much, except when other people wanted to try...

The "Gold Room" located in the lower floor is very popular with gold jewelry and little artifacts.

"The Idea of Beauty" how people in different periods have different views on what's beautiful. Here they showcased some 3000 year old pottery which used to hold makeup and some combs.

The museum also has it's own cafe,  Restaurang Rosengården. You can take a break after looking at some exhibits or get a snack before starting your tour around the museum. During the weekdays, the cafe also offers a daily lunch menu with salad buffet.

Check out their website for lunch times.
