Swedish Christmas Market Scandinavian Centre Burnaby

There's nothing like a Christmas market to help you get in the festive mood and start the holiday season.

Swedish Christmas Market

The Swedish Christmas Market or "Julmarknad" takes place this weekend at the Scandinavian Community Centre in Burnaby. Free entrance!

There are plenty of vendors selling everything from beautiful handmade crafts to snacks, both baked goods and candy. There were a couple of Finnish snack vendors as well.

Baked goods like saffron buns, or lussekatter, cinnamon buns and pepparkakor or ginger snaps were great snacks to try there. They are all things you would find for a Swedish fika or coffee break. The lussekatter are special for the Christmas season.

Swedish Christmas Market

The Cinnamon buns were tasty but not exactly as you'd find in Sweden. So much so, someone said, this isn't a bulle! (The cinnamon bun or kanelbulle usually has the flavors of both cardamom and cinnamon and pearl sugar on top). It was still nice to try.

A Swedish Christmas Market wouldn't be complete without glögg (mulled wine) and korv (hot dogs). You can add almond or raisins to your glögg if you'd like.

Swedish Christmas Market

There was a covered outdoor area to sit and eat if you wanted some cool fresh air. It was quite busy in the building.

The market runs from 11am to 4pm. It's a nice, cozy place for an indoor market with several rooms and an upstairs area to explore. Check out the other events at the Community centre.

JJ Bean Coffee Roasters

Open early, and offering some delicious coffee and snacks like scones and muffins, JJ Bean Coffee Roasters is a coffee chain that we have enjoyed.

JJ Bean Coffee Roasters

Jetlagged and hungry, we were so glad to see that JJ Bean was open! We had our early morning breakfast and coffee and the kids were satisfied. Banana bread and blueberry oatmeal muffin are favorites.

A traditional cappucino or an iced latte is perfect for getting the day off to a great start.

JJ Bean Vancouver

Although JJ Bean can get busy, we haven't had to wait too long for our orders.

JJ Bean also makes several baked items in-house daily. Some locations even offer donuts. 🍩

East Is East Vancouver

Delicious cuisine from the Silk and Spice road and tasty Chai, East is East, is always a lovely dining experience.

East is East

East is East has two locations in the city of Vancouver. We appreciate how they always offer chai or mango lassi samplers while you wait for the table or when you are just seated. The mango lassi is a favorite! Unfortunately, they don't have a vegan version.

East is East

On some evenings there is live music as part of your dining experience.

Kids aren't a fan of spice, but they do like the basmati rice and dahl soup.

East is East

For those who enjoy the spice and flavors, there is quite the selection. You can choose from lamb curry, beef dishes even miso salmon.

If you're new to East is East, it's nice to try "The Feast" which is an all-you-can-eat platter. You can start with a few curries and then request more of the dishes you liked. It's a way to try out the different dishes, that East is East offers.

East is East

They also offer roti rolls that come with soup and salad. The mystic soup made with mushrooms is tasty.

Whether for a casual dinner with friends or a special occasion with family, East is East is a great choice for some good food, pleasant ambience and an overall enjoyable dining experience.

Rain or Shine Ice Cream

In a city where people check the forecast to see when there's a break from the rain... Rain or Shine ice cream picked the perfect name for Vancouver.

On their menu you can find their classic regular flavors like chocolate, vanilla, and peanut butter and it's always exciting to see what they will offer as seasonal flavors!

Rain or Shine Ice Cream Vancouver

"Rain or Shine Ice Cream exists to make our neighbourhoods happy! This is our ultimate goal and what we strive to do through all actions of our company." - Rain or Shine

Their seasonal flavors are around for the month - if they're popular there is a chance they will return. Pick up an ice cream pint to have later or get a scoop in a waffle or sugar cone or  cup.

Rain or Shine Ice Cream Vancouver

Unfortunately, they don't serve coffee at Rain or Shine but this month they do have a delicious Espresso ice cream that's a must-try for coffee lovers.

There are kids size scoops as well. Kids have enjoyed the Vegan vanilla and berry flavors. They usually have a couple of Vegan options available which is great 👍

Rain or Shine has a few locations around the city and usually have indoor and outdoor seating.

Rain or Shine Vancouver

Swedish kids eat ice cream year-round, so this is a perfect spot for anyone who enjoys eating ice cream all year!

Craving some dessert after dinner or anytime during the day, check out a Rain or Shine Ice Cream location. They are open late for your Ice Cream cravings! We really appreciated them giving us an extra kid's scoop of ice cream to replace the one that fell right off the cone on the ground.
