I've been a fan of Shenmue since the beginning, so it really makes me such a proud parent to see that my little ones want to play "Mama's game" with me.
I introduced my daughter to Shenmue 1 when it was re-released on the PS4 a few years back. Her favorite activities are 'Petting the cat', shopping for tuna, and driving the forklift around.
After Shenmue 3 was released, we started playing it together. Most of the time, we find ourselves just exploring. We like to chop wood, chat with people (especially Shenhua and the kids), fish, and run around the beautiful landscapes.
If there are any fight scenes, she wants me to take over, but otherwise, she is pretty good at learning to control the character and follow directions. I'm not in any rush to complete Shenmue 3 because who knows when we will get another one. Might as well enjoy what we do have :)
We sometimes still play Shenmue 1 even if we've finished it. She doesn't like Chai, and refers to him as the "funny guy" because he always laughs. Shenmue 2 we didn't get through very much yet, so we have a lot left to play through.
It's so interesting hearing kids' observations. They are so curious about everything these days. A few times, they've asked why Ryo has that bandaid on his face. And they wonder why we can't talk to all the kids in the martial arts class or why Ryo can't go in the water to swim or why Ryo sleeps in his jeans. Haha!
We are going to continue playing Shenmue 3 and the previous Shenmue games together. It's amazing to play a Series I loved years and years ago with the little ones. Playing Shenmue together is definitely an activity we are all enjoying.
Thanks for reading and remember, don't forget your snacks!
