Japan Market Mini Pop-Up

Taking place this weekend Dec 12-14th at City Square Mall in Vancouver, Japan Market's Mini Pop-up Winter Fair was busy! 🎄 

This mini market is Free admission which means more money to spend on gifts for you or anyone on your list. You'll find creative artists with handmade crafts, stickers, cards and keychains like Rabbits and Hurricane.

and Japanese food vendors like Wa-Bagel selling stuffed bagels, at the mini market.

It's a great place to do some holiday shopping and take a break to sample some Japanese snacks too. Visit the Japan Market pop-up mini market this weekend!

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts New Vancouver Location

Donut fans can rejoice because a new Krispy Kreme Doughnuts location is coming to Vancouver! There has been a Krispy Kreme location in Delta, BC for years and many fundraising groups had to pickup donuts all the way there.

Now it looks like a new doughnut location will be opening in Vancouver in the busy area of Broadway and Cambie. Signs for the soon to open location can be seen displayed on the future store windows. 

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts are a more airy, soft doughnut. Their original glazed donut is the most popular flavor but they also feature different holiday flavors!

Exciting news for donut fans and anyone who enjoys a good snack. This is a great location, as it's near buses and the city's Skytrain line. They won't have a shortage of hungry customers. Looking forward to having Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in the city!

49th Parallel Cafe and Luckys Doughnuts Vancouver

Want a change from pairing your usual pastries with your morning coffee? Check out a 49th Parallel Cafe location offering delicious Lucky's doughnuts!

These donuts are jumbo size, so they are great for sharing! Definitely kid-approved as well.

There are also several Vegan friendly options! All ingredients are listed or ask the knowledgeable staff about a specific donut.

Of course, there are seasonal coffees available, so you can get try some Autumn flavors. 🍂 

49th Parallel Cafe is open early and it's pretty quiet in the mornings so you can sit before continuing your day. 

We've had good customer service during our visits and no one is rushing you out if you decide to sit for awhile longer.

There is plenty of indoor space and seating at most locations. Even ramps in some cafes, so it's fine for strollers. Outdoor seating is also available at some cafe locations.

If you're looking for a bright, cozy cafe in Vancouver with a nice selection and are meeting with friends or even a coffee break on your own, check out a 49th Parallel Cafe location.

Tasty America Stockholm

Looking for some American-style snacks in Stockholm? Stop by a Tasty America location. You might even find some British and Japanese snacks too.

They offer seasonal snacks and box mixes for baking brownies or cakes. They even have macaroni and cheese!

Prices for these American snacks are a bit high but if you can't find it anywhere else it can be worth it.

There's also a huge variety of candy for those who like to try different candies.

Swedish Snack Kanelmandel

 

In Sweden, bulk candy is very popular, especially on the weekends when Swedes celebrate "lördagsgodis" or "Saturday Sweets". Bulk candy is called "Godis". They also have bulk nuts and nut related snacks which they call "Naturgodis' or 'natural candy'.

One of our favorite Naturgodis has to be kanelmandel!

What is a Kanelmandel?

Kanelmandel or Kanelmandlar (plural) are milk chocolate covered almonds which are then covered in cinnamon.

They have a nice crunch and are both sweet and salty. They are delicious and it's hard to eat just one.. you may find yourself grabbing a handful :)

You can find this snack at a grocery store, candy store or chocolate shop!

There is also a similar almond snack but instead of cinnamon it uses cardamom.

Bubble Tea in Stockholm

We enjoy bubble tea and it's nice to be able to find it in Stockholm, Sweden! Being the capital city and much more international, you can find quite a few Bubble Tea places around. It seems like it's actually pretty popular here. When you're craving some Bubble tea in Stockholm, you have more than a few places to choose from!

We have tried Bubble Tea when we stumble upon shops in the city!

Oolong Tea House 

There are several locations in the city and they also offer snacks like cheesecake, mochi and onigirl.

A small mom and pop sushi restaurant in Nacka, a city just outside Stockholm, that also offers some delish bubble tea and tapioca balls! You can customize the amount of sugar.

We saw this popup truck at the Nobelberget Marknad recently! They had a few Vegan milk tea options as well as lactose-free and Oatmilk bubble tea too.

Favorite French snacks

On a recent trip to Paris, we were surprised by how many bakeries there were in a neighborhood! Just within a few blocks there were 5 different boulangeries to choose from. It was easy to try a different one each day or a few different ones in a day haha. Of course, we had to try our favorite French snacks during our visit!

For breakfast, we would take croissants and baguette back home to have with butter, cheese and sometimes scrambled eggs.

Galette des rois is a French traditional cake made to celebrate Three Kings Day in January. Du Pain et des Idées was one bakery we tried the Galette and it was so delicious!!

Juleskum Swedish Candy

Juleskum translates to "Christmas Foam". This popular Swedish treat by Cloetta, comes in the shape of a Santa, pink and white, and appears around the Christmas season.

I've seen different flavors as well, like banana caramel flavored!

And chocolate covered marshmallow too.

We've been asked to bring Juleskum to friends who used to enjoy them when they lived in Sweden. 

They even come in big tubs for those who really enjoy this treat! Haha, that's more than enough to share 😄

Marzipan Pig

Marzipan pigs are traditional to see in Scandinavia countries during the Christmas season. It's also in German and Dutch traditions. Marzipan is made out of almond so its unfortunately not for those with nut allergies.

In Sweden, a game they have is with eating rice porridge or risgröt with a hidden almond in the pot. If you end up with the almond, you are awarded a marzipan pig or "marsipangris" in Swedish.

The marzipan pigs come in different sizes. This one is a large sized Mama pig with babies, as my little ones pointed out. Check out the price tag...995kr!

There are mini marzipan pigs as well, like these found at Magnus Johansson Bakery. So cute!

You can find Marzipan pigs at various cafes and even the grocery store during the Christmas season.

Little Britain Shop Stockholm

Do you have some British snack cravings or need some tea and cookies for fika? Little Britain Shop in Stockholm is the place to go!

Located in Gamla Stan in downtown Stockholm, the shop has a wide variety of snacks for all your cravings. Whether it's something sweet like chocolate bars and cookies, or a savory snack like chips (or crisps) and meat pies, Little Britain Shop is well-stocked for all your snack needs! 

Their inventory can change, so if you can't find what you were searching for, feel free to ask! The staff are very helpful and the item you're looking for might just be out of stock!

For the Holiday season there are decorations and cards, Advent calendars, Mince pies, Christmas crackers and of course plenty of stocking stuffers!

Maybe some tea or a mug for the tea lover on your gift list? There is always delicious shortbread and mince pies to bring to a holiday gathering or a snack for yourself.

IKEA Christmas Snacks

 

It's that time of year where everyone looks forward to the holidays and preparations include shopping for decorations, gifts and snacks. We always enjoy going to IKEA during the festive season to check out what they have this year.

We picked up an Advent Calendar and chocolate bar with gingerbread!

At IKEA in Sweden, you can find Swedish glögg or Vintersaga drink, pepparkakor or ginger snaps and everything needed for some Gingerbread house building!

It's always nice to browse IKEA to see the decorations and decide if you need more candles, napkins, or plants ;)

Then after shopping, maybe grab a snack at the IKEA restaurant or Bistro. 🎄 

IKEA also offers a "Christmas Table" or Julbord during the winter. Meatballs, potatos and different salads are available for you to try.
