Located in the neighborhood of Södermalm, in Stockholm, Sweden, the Noel's Pop-up restaurant, Kanto, is the first Filipino bistro in Stockholm!
It's great to see unique cuisine like Filipino food gaining more popularity, especially in Sweden where there is a growing Filipino population. If you're looking for some traditional tasty Filipino cuisine and unique, heavenly desserts, check out Kanto!
Currently, Kanto, offers a Summer dinner menu which is served Tues-Fri and a Sunday brunch buffet.
We recently tried the Summer dinner menu and chose the Signature platter for 2 persons. You can choose 2 appetizers and 1 entrée.
The Signature platter came with a bowl of garlic rice to share that was really flavorful.
One thing to note is that they served the appetizers and entrée together instead of appetizers first. So we were extra hungry when food arrived!
We chose the crunchy fried chicken wings and the traditional egg rolls or Lumpia (made with pork, beef and shrimp) for appetizer and the milk fish (or Bangus) for the main.
Delicious flavor combination of salted egg, tomato and the fish! Just wish there was more!
We did have our delightful drinks to start as we waited, and the cocktails were refreshing, especially the Mangojito!
Ube colada - you could really taste the Ube, or purple yam, in this drink!
Kanto has a nice outdoor seating area so it's a great place to relax after work for drinks and snacks. Once the weather warms up, it will be even better!
We saved room for dessert and it was a good thing since the serving of Halo-Halo was pretty generous! Halo-halo is popular Filipino dessert that consists of shaved ice, various toppings like Leche flan, beans, jellies, and tapioca drizzled with condensed milk and ice cream. Different flavors with each bite and a great Summer dessert!
We also tried the Ube Cassava cake which was quite dense and really decadent. There was even a layer of flan on top! So yummy!
Kanto will be open until December after that they will hopefully continue but move into a bigger location. They are also now open for lunch service and available as a food delivery option too!
If dining with kids, Kid-friendly food options include the rice, chicken, and egg rolls. They also have a box of drawing supplies to entertain the kids, which is great for parents!
We recently had the chance to try the Sunday brunch buffet! The buffet items change every couple of weeks.
Our favorite dishes were the sinigang - traditional Filipino tangy soup flavored with tamarind and the Menudo - meat stew with potatoes! Other nice additions were the Puto and pakbet!
Whether you're a Filipino in Sweden and homesick for Filipino food, a foodie who has previously enjoyed Filipino cuisine or just someone who is curious about it, definitely check out the Filipino Bistro Kanto in Stockholm!
** As of Nov 2023, Kanto has announced that they will be closing in a few weeks! They will be opening a location in the neighborhood of Vasastan in June 2024!
Serving traditional Swedish dishes or "husmanskost" and with many locations around Stockholm, the Eatery is a great lunch option!
The daily lunch or "dagenslunch" includes a salad buffet with lots of healthy salad toppings, to build your own salad.
Lunch also includes coffee or tea and something sweet. Depending on the day of the week, it could be a dessert like delicious apple crumble or chocolate mousse!
We have enjoyed Eatery lunches when we can. It's nice to have a restaurant like it in the neighborhood and the food has been tasty!
You can choose from a meat dish, fish dish or vegetarian dish for lunch!

Located in Stockholm, Sweden, in the neighborhood of Södermalm, Mormors Restaurang & Dumplings (Mormors means Grandma's in Swedish) is an authentic Chinese restaurant that specializes in Dumplings!
They offer vegetarian, pork, beef and chicken dumplings! The dumpling dough is soft and has a nice chew to it. They come in orders of 10 or 15 pieces.
The dumplings in hot pot dish was pretty popular as well.
We were surprised to find that even if the restaurant had just opened for lunch, it was already packed and more people were coming in to order takeaway or wait for a table.
Duck dish and wonton soup
It's a small restaurant, nothing fancy but the food is tasty! Stand in line to order your dishes then grab your own water, miso soup and rice crackers. Choose a table before you lineup if you can.
Wait your turn to order but have your order ready!
Kids loved the dumplings so we went back for dumplings takeaway!

Mormors Dumplings are delicious and it's worth a visit if you don't mind the wait or small space. Leave strollers outside as there's no space inside for them.
Located in downtown Stockholm, the Java Whiskers Cat Cafe is a popular place for those who enjoy the company of cats during their coffee break!
It's no secret that being with animals can be a calming and stress relieving activity. Interacting with animals can be healing therapy for those who like them and who aren't allergic to them. Some of the cats at the Cat Cafe enjoyed playing with the humans too.
Java Whiskers was the first Cat Cafe to open in Sweden! Cats can learn to socialize with humans visitors which can help them prepare for adoption.
Kids aged 10 and up are allowed in the cafe but no younger children. This is mentioned on their website and is likely for the safety of the cats.
Being a mom of younger kids, I know how excited they get when they see cats and how they want to chase them around whether or not the cat wants their attention!
However, Java Whiskers now offers a course for kids 6+ to learn how to spend time with the cats. After completing this course, kids are allowed to come into the Cat cafe with a parent 🐈 They just need to bring their Java Whiskers button! The staff were really friendly and my child enjoyed the course! Thank you, Java Whiskers!
There are drop-in spots to visit the Cat cafe but they recommend booking your time to ensure a spot.
It is possible to add extras to your booking like a little snack package or even a birthday package to celebrate you or a friend! 🎂
It's always great to support local cafes especially one that helps Cats find their new families.

On our visit we opted to choose the snacks to have once we arrived at the cafe. Along with different coffee drinks, there were various pastries to try too - there are some nut free options in case of allergies, just check with the staff.
Once you order, you line-up to go in. The staff serves your order in the 'Cat area' so try to choose a place to sit with a table for your snacks.
The cafe has a smaller space than we expected but it makes for a cozy visit. There are still a few different tables so all the human visitors can space themselves out.
The cats have large windows to look out or nap beside which also brings a lot of light into their space. There are plenty of cat toys and some nice high shelves to climb if they prefer to have time away from everyone.
The Cat Cafe staff were friendly and gave a little information session before inviting you in to wash hands and remove your shoes. A few times, staff would come in to play with cats or talk to visitors about the cats. They also fed some of the cats treats.
Not all of the cats wanted to socialize during our visit, so don't expect the cats to come running to you! Remember that these cats may still be getting used to humans.
Nice to have high spaces for the cats to be on their own!
If you ignore the cats, they might get curious and approach you on their own.
If you are visiting Stockholm and missing your own pets back home or just really like cats but can't have pets, the Java Whiskers Cat Cafe is the perfect place. We had a lovely visit!
And if you are interested in adopting a cat, you can come meet the cats and see if you think any of the kitties could be a good match. Java Whiskers has several cats waiting for adoption.
It's nice to have a more than one cafe option in the neighborhood for coffee, pastries and cakes!
Vivels cafe has a few locations around Stockholm, Sweden and this Vivels cafe is conveniently located near the tram stop.
There is seating upstairs in the cafe so if the main floor is busy, try upstairs :)
So many pastry options including Swedish Cinnamon buns, "kanelbullar".
We have enjoyed the toasted sandwiches and the Pepparkakor that are available during the Christmas season!
We've also tried one of the many bread loaves and it was delicious. The prices are pretty good as well.
The Cafe staff were very friendly and explained what kinds of bread they had available that day and whether or not it was sweet (grandparent avoids sweet bread).

We haven't tried to order cake from Vivels yet, but it's on our list now that we know there are a variety of cakes available to order!
There are more than a few different cakes at Vivels - can't buy happiness but you can buy some cake!
If you're looking for a cozy cafe to grab some coffee while you wait for the tram or a place to sit for a moment after running errands, why not check out Vivels cafe! There are plenty of good snacks to choose from. It's always great to support local businesses.

Hemmakväll which literally translates into "Home night" meaning a cozy evening at home, is the perfect place to pick up snacks before "Fredagsmys" or Friday movie night at home or anytime really!
They have variety of snacks to satisfy your snack craving! We have tried the Doritos Red Pepper flavor (recommended by a friend!), all sorts of Bulk candy, Pocky and some other random sweets.
Unfortunately, no public bathroom is available even for kids (had that experience recently and had to rush out to the nearest Max instead).
There is also no softserve or "Mjukglass" available, maybe they will add it in the summer?
Something I appreciated was, I bought some bulk candy to give away in my kid's the birthday gift bags and Hemmakväll staff was so nice to let me take paper bags to use!
If you're in Stockholm, even for a visit, checkout a Hemmakväll for some snacks or better yet some Swedish candy souvenirs! Are you a fan of Licorice?
If you're in the mood for Burgers, shakes, fries and pizza, Rockin' Grill is a nice kid-friendly restaurant with several locations in Stockholm, Sweden.
There are a couple of kids' lunch options or you can choose from the variety of sides they have like fries, mozzarella sticks or onion rings.
In the summer, they offer outdoor seating as well as indoor, but for winter they just have indoor seating.
The meals include drinks and Rockin' Grill with it's indoor diner decor offers several different soda drinks and American style shakes.
For families walking on the waterfront in the Hammarby Sjöstad area, it's a great spot to take a break and get some shelter from the cold.
For the kids, thanks to the upstairs games area including a ball pit, it really is a special treat! Kids can entertain themselves while waiting for their food to arrive :)
There is space inside the restaurant for Strollers so if you have a sleeping baby, feel free to bring them in and park them next to your table.
After ordering on the Restaurant kiosks, the friendly staff actually bring your food to the table as opposed to you having to pick it up.
Rockin' Grill is a nice local spot that we were pleasantly surprised to find. It's located on the waterfront next to the bridge connected to Södermalm.
